Everything at this point is looking good. Elijah is going to have surgery tomorrow, time unknown for now, to have a feeding port put in. They are also going to do some exploration and check out the other areas of his intestines. Basically, this port will allow him to have milk, which will provide him with much more nutrients than he could receive from the manufactured stuff. He also has VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) which is a hole between his ventricles, in his heart. This is a less common occurring issue, that could basically close up over time. He could eventually have surgery, but for now they are going to see how his body responds and if it does begin to close. The doctors at this point fell he has esophageal atresia, which is basically a bulb at the end of his esophagus, which is not connected to his stomach. They will, after the heart issue is figured out, join those together. The doctor said we will know him well and know him for a long time, so we are looking at a long road ahead. But God has been great and faithful by allowing him to be born, and so far he is looking good. We have every reason to believe he will continue to grow and things will work out well. We truly trust God to have his will happen.
Elijah will be in NICU for about 2 months, so pray for us as we go back and forth and have to deal with not being able to bring him home right away. The boys should be able to see him today for the first time. Obviously, they are excited. Tammy is continuing to do well and is getting her strength back. She should leave the hospital on Wednesday.
Pray for the surgery tomorrow, that they will find everything that is need to be found at this time. Obviously, we pray for success for this one, which will be number one of many. We know God can close the hole in his heart, so we will begin our prayers there. We ask everyone else do the same. This is our miracle baby. God has truly been faithful and given us a miracle.
